MIT CoLab & Project Row Houses | Urban Planning & Organizing
Houston's historic third ward is changing. The neighborhood where Project Row Houses has been working on arts-integrated community development work for over twenty years is now seeing influx of higher incomes and speculative real estate development. Working with Project Row Houses artist and founder Rick Lowe and Sankofa Research Institute Director Assata Richards, our team from MIT CoLab spent the summer traveling to Houston and co-developed strategies for a neighborhood-wide organizing and planning strategy to enact development without displacement. The project helped birth the Emancipation Economic Development Council and is still utilizing the strategies our team helped to develop.
